Until August 31, 2014, the old building that housed the Mutualité de Nantes is a museum dedicated to the muralist movement. Before its planned destruction in 2015, it was delivered to the artists who appropriated it and invested all the parts in it. It's colorful, like the idea we have of the Latin American world here. It is there, in fact, that Muralism was born just after the Mexican revolution at the beginning of the 20th century. The artists then appropriated the walls of cities and drew frescoes illustrating both their political and social questions but also their hopes. Muralism was born. It spread throughout Latin America and then spread to the world. He is characterized by a very developed imagination and sense of color. In Nantes, around twenty artists from this movement have worked in every corner of the old house of the Mutualité.It is necessary to hurry to visit it. It will definitely close its doors on August 31.

Acids. Muralism obliges, the results are close to the fresco, to the narration, to the reinvention of the space invested, with particular attention to textures, to layers of meaning, to the inventive rather than iterative gesture. So the Lille 3TTMan, which delivers a cement room with a very art brut, sacred atmosphere and cone of light, or the Colombian Bastardilla, who paints and scrapes the glass to obtain the effects of materials. The Spaniard Pelucas, for his part, brings salvaged objects and repaints them, grafts them between them in the middle of very acidic variations on the icons of the comic strip.

We do not express ourselves in order to express ourselves: we are rather listening. It is for example the rather bizarre eroticism, even a little sadien, of the Mexican Fusca, whose line evokes symbolism, and which puts the woman's body in all its forms: especially imprisonment and the knot - Fusca studied psychoanalysis. This taste for symbolism is found in the Argentinian brothers of the Presente Grupo duo, kings of deep blue and gold calligraphy, of which they bewitch a stairwell here, by presenting theTraveler : two men, acrobats - or perhaps matryoshkas, since their silhouettes illustrate a text by Khalil Gibran: “From the depths of my heart came out a bird…” which succeeds both in filling the cosmos and in remaining intimate. The sample of muralists presented by the VAN is quite feminine, and with a collectivist tendency.

The Nantes native Katjastroph, whose graphics are inspired by engraving and medieval bestiary, regularly works for other street artists - live performance, specifically. She also produces posters, as the Brazilian Derlon signs flyers or decorates restaurants.
