The Museum Kampa collection mainly focuses on 20th-century art, but it also extends to the 19th and 21st centuries. Unlike most institutional collections it is not structured according to the material, but thematically, and so it also maps the history of the individual parts of the collection. One part of Jan and Meda Mládek’s original collection has been donated to Prague but is curated by the museum, while the other part comprises the collection of Museum Kampa – the Jan and Meda Mládek Foundation.

And it is up to each visitor if they are drawn more toward the legacy of the Liberated Theatre and its main actors, the reminder of the unforgettable front pieces that have now come back into fashion, or the quiet, concentrated moments with the verse of the poet Vladimír Holan, or if they would prefer a theatre presentation or an evening of dance or listening to Ježek’s immortal songs.

Welcome to Werich Villa, building number 501 on Kampa Island, in the heart of historic Prague. Few Prague buildings are enshrouded in such a mysterious history and conceal the fates of so many important personalities who have one thing in common: words.
There is a large sculpture of a chair by Magdalena Jetelová outside the museum, which is a prominent landmark visible from across the Vltava.
