Roman Empire never stopped when this Volcano erupting deadly earthquakes on 62 AD (magnitudes of between 5 and 6) it turned utopian too dystopian, instead of singing and theatres it became more gladitorial in nature, many people believe time stopped during the initial earthquakes which was untrue, it continued in the worst way and Romans knew how to be dystopian and gladitorial.
I absolutley love the blend of weather of ancient pompeii with hues being changed by the state of the clouds and atmosphere blending onto the charred rock below

Repairs were made to the amphitheatre in 62 AD with a new seating area constructed, the amphitheatre could accommodate up to 20,000 people with Chariot Racing, Gladiator fights with Animal Hunts

62 AD eruption everything changed everything was reorganized like a board-game, imagine the most intelligent civilization marketplace with a tariff market so clever it hasn't be recreated in the modern-era to everything changing overnight or at least until (17 years later) 79 AD when time really froze. Perhaps the galditorial games increased during this era as an attempt to calm the gods causing the earthquakes all that remains a mystery but 17yrs of earthquakes until the final eruption that buried everything some of the city being partially visible throughout the centuries

It'll be noticed that the view seems honeycombed in design but remember alot of these so called honeycombed structures had wooden roofing so during it's era would have looked less like this before alot of this was built with rock it was built by the same wood they used on roofing at one point the entire stone arenas were indeed made from wood. I would imagine the Roman carved wood would have looked breathtaking in detail.

Vesuvius National Park easily visible, you'll notice the park due to the enormous volcanco Vesuvius and it's still an active volcano above the park that flowed down the valley blanketing the civilization of ancient Pompeii

Were the years between 62AD and 79AD a test by the gods to see how civilization would break down, these drone footages in my opinion are the perfect examinations to theorize those concepts and thanks to centuries of archeologists painstakingly removing the chaos of a destroyed civilization frozen in time

Emperor Titus was a relatively benevolent, popular ruler and even contributed Imperial funds to help the survivors of Vesuvius’s eruption. Though only emperor for two years(June 79 -Sept. 81AD), his short reign was plagued by disaster. He died of natural stress causes at 41yrs old.
